There’s just something about a hometown show—and Grayscale proved that tenfold when they hit the stage at The Fillmore in Philadelphia for Mayday Parade’s Three Cheers for 20 Years tour. As the line queued up, countless Grayscale shirts were seen sporting the hometown heroes.

They hit the stage early, but the room was already packed. People showed up for them, and rightfully so. As the lights went down, the crowd got loud. The opening track of their newest album, “The Hart” hummed in the background as the band took the stage. With every member’s silhouette forming on stage, the cheers got louder. The night kicked off with “Kept Me Alive” a hard-hitting release from that same album. Crowd surfing began almost immediately and didn’t stop until the lights went down for the final song.

You could tell the band was feeding off the hometown love. This wasn’t just another stop on a tour—it was a return to where it all began.

The set was packed with new and old, something for every era of Grayscale fan. The best part is, even if you weren’t a fan before, you were leaving the show a fan of this rising Philly band.

“In Violet” has everyone jumping and singing along, and “Fever Dream” brought out the angst and emotions of those die-hard fans. The band’s chemistry was incredible, never missing a beat. After all, Grayscale is no stranger to The Fillmore, and the confidence and seamless play through of their set proved it.

This show was not only special because it was a hometown show, but it was also special because it was their guitar player, Andrew’s, birthday! Before they ended the set, the prior opener “Like Roses” joined the stage to celebrate with the band as the crowd chanted Andrew's name. Shots were taken, Eagles chants were heard throughout the venue, and the good times could be felt in the entire crowd. It doesn’t get more Philly than that!

As the last notes of their closing track “Not Afraid to Die”  faded and the lights shifted in preparation for the main event, one thing was clear: Grayscale didn’t just open the show—they elevated it. For a special guest appearance during Mayday Parade’s set, Collin came out to sing “Three Cheers for Five Years”. This surprise had everyone off their feet the entire time. There is something so special about watching a hometown band play in their hometown city. Grayscale will be returning to Philly on September 11th to the Franklin Music Hall for Our Last Night’s “The Final Tour”. Without a doubt, this is a band to put on your radar and make it out to any show you can!
