Coming all the way from the west coast, The Taxpayers kicked off their “Circle Breaker” tour at House of Independents in Asbury Park, New Jersey this past Wednesday evening.

The first opener of the night was ShyGodwin, a punk band based in Philadelphia, PA. With their fast-paced drums, heavy guitars, and screams that could be heard around town, ShyGodwin got the crowd pumped up for what was to come next. Coming from someone who has seen ShyGodwin multiple times before, every show they put on is astounding. For more information on ShyGodwin, click here.

Soon after ShyGodwin left the stage, Pinkwash, a punk rock duo based in Philadelphia, PA, took over the stage. They started their set intimately by dimming the lights before rocking out on stage. They kept ShyGodwin’s energy going throughout the venue with loud vocals and smashing drums.

Next on the bill was Pigeon Pit, an alternative band that describes their music as “a collection of stories wrapped in sunburned skin and a brave heart from a small beach town”. They pulled this prompt off magnificently; telling a story with every song that they sang, with instrumentals ranging from trumpet and baritone to harmonica and banjo. The lead singer, Lomes Oleander, also gave a heartfelt speech towards the end of the set, making the crowd feel loved, appreciated, and seen.

Last but most certainly not least, The Taxpayers took over the stage and the energy in the room was electric. The crowd knew every word to every song and danced to every beat. You can always tell when a band genuinely loves showing off the hard work they’ve put into their craft, and this band is no different. Every moment that they were on stage, they had the biggest smiles on their faces, and interacted with the crowd as much as humanly possible. The lead singer, Rob Taxpayer, also took the time to thank the venue and its workers for everything that they do.
This past Wednesday was just the beginning for The Taxpayers as they prepare to tour the West Coast later next month, hitting cities such as Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Francisco. To catch up with them, follow them on Instagram @the_taxpayers.
