The Story So Far is a pop punk band from Walnut Creek, California. They’ve been in the game since 2007 and recently released their anticipated fifth studio album I Want To Disappear this June. Currently, they are on their I Want To Disappear in the USA Tour with support from Stony Brook natives, Koyo and Pennsylvania band, Superheaven. Lara Ziccardi, one of our photographers here at Punk Pulse, headed into the city to catch the show!

Firstly I would like to mention how much I Want To Disappear means to me. This album is absolutely incredible front to back. In my opinion, there are no skips - every song gets stuck in my head and is so damn catchy. The Story So Far sounds polished, clean, and consistent while still being about to pour their hearts and emotions out on the record. To me, the album explores themes of loss and grief.

To get personal, I lost my dad June of 2023. Even though the album came out a year after my dad’s passing, it helped me realize that no matter how much time has passed, it’s okay to fall back into grief. I Want To Disappear made my feelings of anger validated. Kicking off the record in pain (All This Time), realizing he’s never coming back, and even wearing the clothes he’s left behind (Letterman), wishing I can call him and tell him every single update he’s missed (White Shores), and keeping his memory alive through photos, his old belongings, and even me (Keep You Around). Looking back, I realized I haven’t had a record of speaking and touching me so deeply like this. However! As much as I would love to talk more about the new record, I have a very fun show to tell you about!

The Story So Far brought their tour to Brooklyn Paramount during the last week of November. They hit the ground running as soon as they got on stage. The first three songs were “Big Blind,” “The Glass,” and “Out of It.” The fourth song of the night was “Nothing To Say” which is one of my favorites off the record. At this time, I headed to the balcony to snap a few photos and the wide video of the GA section was insane! I couldn’t wait to get in there.

This was one of my favorite crowds I’ve been in - it wasn’t as intense as Knocked Loose but it was just rowdy enough where I wasn’t fearing for my life. I love general admission shows where the entire floor is moving.  I really enjoyed that they had a great mix of the new record and their old songs. “Letterman” was another one of my favorite songs that was played that night.

A few of my standouts from the set were “Watch You Go,”  “Empty Space,” “Roam,” and “White Shores.” I have to give a very special shout out to the fans that attend these shows - everyone I came across was so nice and cool. I love pop punk shows because these are some of the crowds I’ve been in. I had such an amazing time jumping around with the Brooklyn crowd. Another special thing about pop punk crowds is that they always have each other’s backs - I’ve had people check on me and others around them, give a hand to those who fell, or even just struck up a small conversation. Specifically, I’d like to give a special shout out to Jack Barney who grabbed this awesome photo of me in The Story So Far pit. Here she is, the gal behind the camera!

My favorite song of the night was “Nerve” - there was something about it where the crowd erupted in even more energy. For those who don’t know, I’m not only a photographer and writer but I’m also a concert goer (duh!) - and I crowd surf every once in a while! I thought, what other awesome way to leave one of my favorite shows than to crowd surf? I asked the very kind strong guys around me for a lift and I just hopped into their arms and off I went! I love crowd surfing out, it feels like I’m floating!

The Story So Far’s tour was a night to remember - this was one of my favorite shows that I’ve covered. The energy from the crowd was electrifying and I find myself yearning to return to it. I’d also like to give a special thank you to my amazing team at Punk Pulse - this is my first concert review for them! I’m looking forward to many more in the future. Another special thank you to the team at Big Picture for this opportunity, I had the best time! Be sure to check us out on Instagram and take a listen to the setlist!
